The most common health hazard of junk foods is the growing obesity in children. That’s not all, there are many more harmful effects of junk foods which are listed below:

Junk Foods have High Sugar Content in them

It is true that a single can of carbonated drink contains about ten teaspoons of sugar in it. Junk foods should be avoided at all costs by those who are trying to stay in shape. The unused sugar is converted into fat and stored by the body.

And it has been observed that people who eat junk foods on everyday basis are at a much greater risk of obesity. Junk foods with maximum sugar content are chocolates, cakes, pastries as well as cookies.

Junk foods have very less minerals and vitamins in them. In some junk foods the only trace amounts of minerals are vitamins are present. Lack of such nutrients shuns the proper growth and development in children.

Oxycholesterol is a type of cholesterol which is associated with increased risk of heart attacks. Junk foods are known to have high quantity of oxycholesterol in them. Children who have junk foods may have increased risk of heart attacks as adults.

Side Effects of Artificial Flavors and Colors

To content of artificial flavors present in junk foods targeted towards children is very high. The artificial colors and flavors present in junk foods are responsible for health problems like asthma, hyperactivity and rashes on the skin.

Causes Diabetes in Children

Diabetes is a metabolic problem characterized by unstable insulin, which reduces the body’s ability in breaking down the sugar. Some of the junk foods are so high in sugar that they exceed the recommended daily amount of sugar in just a single food product. Children all across the world are eating lots and lots of junk foods and that is the leading cause of growing diabetes in children.

Blood Pressure Problem

Junk foods, such as wafers, pretzels and French fries, have high amounts of salts in it which is responsible for excessive intake of sodium by children. If children consume high amounts of sugar then they are more susceptible to having blood pressure problems when they grow up.
